Welcome To Episode 26 of Your Story.

It’s been some time since there has been a Your Story Episode, unfortunately the constraints to produce an episode while on the road travelling made it difficult to find the time required for the standard necessary to do justice to the wonderful people that I meet.

However now that I’ve returned to Australia it’s possible to finish the necessary work required to get an episode out and here it is.

Today we talk with Michael Kierans who in is a Canadian migrant living with his Czech wife in Prague, Czech Republic. He is established as a successful business owner of two cafes bars having moved from his Michael Kieranssuccessful life as a lawyer in Canada to Prague after the fall of communisium. Michael explains the difficulties of dealing with a different cultural and mental attitude that permeates all aspects of life in the Czech Republic from organising the necessities of running a business to the way that the government and politicians operate.

Michael explains the ever so subtle differences that he is able to be aware of now that he has been in Prague for a considerable period of time. He explains why the personality of the Czech people is the way it is, due to the long history of the Czech Lands and the impact that this history has had on the culture particularly during the communist era. Also he shows his enthiusium for this country and why there is an exciting time for the Czech Republic into the future as the next generations come through with their new and different mindset and continuation of their cultural heritages.

Impressively Michael explains what keeps him in Prague and why he loves it so much to make it his home.

Welcome To Episode Sixteen of Your Story Addendum.

I’ve been nearly eight weeks away from Australia experiencing all that I could of the culture, sights but particually the people that I met and had a chance to commune with as I drifted from home and country of one person into the life of another. It was an amazing trip as all trips that people do and it was a trip that will impact in ways that I cannot fathom yet. That and getting over a bit of jetlag is the reason that it’s taken a week to get this episode out but here it is.Flickr Set Europe

It’s best to just let you listen to it. I thought about rerecording it but decided to leave it as it is as it shows the confusion that I have about a few things as I continue to settle back in.

I said it on the show but I’ll also say it here, Thanks!

Thanks to everyone who emailed me, connected with me on twitter or commented on the posts or my Flickr photos.

Particularly I want to thank the hospitality and friendships that I was shown from Claudia, Eve & Romy in Berlin. Adam Daniel Mezei in Prague. Todd & Rozzen in Vannes and Madeline in London.

Thanks all, you know what you mean to me.

I’m as interested as anyone to know where this is going so let’s hang on and see what happens. I’m already planning for the next trip but more later.

Welcome To Episode Fourteen of Your Story.

Today we talk with Fiona Stager who has developed an award winning community book store The Avid Reader in West End, Brisbane.

Everyone knows this type of store. They exist in every community that still cares about fine things and a place for passions to be shared. Fiona mentions all the usual challenges of owning a small business, the frustrations, the stresses with a life outside of the business and dealing with the uncertainty of peak times of the year.

However now she has to also deal with the emerging internet based technologies that can swamp small business and her strategies for dealing with them is by using the classic techniques of good traditional retail sales, namely community building and individualised service.

She doesn’t mince her words, sharing her opinions on Amazon and the unfair tactics of not paying GST in Australia Continue Reading »

Welcome To Episode Thirteen of Your Story.

Today we talk with John Pene-Fonmosa who in explaining his heritage from the slavery of the South Sea Islanders known as Kanakas and their strong work ethic offers an opposing thought on the Sorry concept that is in the public mind at present.

He feels that the Aboriginal Australians should say sorry to the Australian populations for surprising reasons.

He has strong opinions on how fortunate we all are in Australia and how he is creating his own reality through the development of his Authentic Aboriginal Art Gallery in Brisbane. Continue Reading »

“Your Story” Moves Up to the Next Level

Published by Ian under Personal

First I want to thank everyone of you out there who are coming here and checking this site and downloading the show. I also want to thank everyone who is subscribed either through iTunes or another feed reader or possibly using some of the other directories out there.

Thanks to YouThanks :-)

As I’ve explained before I’m doing this to create a space in my life for change and evolvement of the way I’m doing things. After a long reflection I came up with the idea to do this show and now I have eleven episodes up, which I’m very proud of.

Proud not only because they are my production but proud that there are people out there who trust me enough to share something of themselves, sometimes very personal things. I’m also proud because of you the reader and listener. I’m humbled that you feel that what I’m doing here is worth a listen and maybe you get something from it.

I have very little idea who you are. What I do know I’d like to share with you. I know that you’re from primarily the USA and Australia (I’m in Australia and the US is a huge market) but also from all over the world.

I know that you are a small group certainly not the hundreds or thousands of some podcasts but there are a few dozen of you subscribed and the same number who listen and download from the site. To date the total of all episodes have been downloaded about 650 times.

I go, “WOW”, and I’m humbled that is how many times the show has been exposed to you. Continue Reading »
