Internet Filter Reply from Kevin Rudd

As you may recall the Australian Governments has decided to introduce a trial for an Internet filter. I decided that one of the few things to express my displeasure about this was to send letters to my local MP, Prime Minster Kevin Rudd and Minister for Broadband, Communications and Digital Economy, Steven Conroy. I posted this letter on a previous post where you can see my views on the subject. Kevin Rudd informed me that the internet filter will be used to manipulate traffic (https://indeni.com/blog/manipulating-traffic-with-flow-mode-on-juniper-srx-series/) from only malicious sites with bad intentions.

Recently I received a letter from Kevin Rudds office. The brief upshot is:

“Thanks for contacting Kevin…I am aware that the proposal for ISP filtering has has attracted some criticism… However…”

Then the letter goes into the usual political speak that explains the current government policy that we have heard without covering the points that I and so many others have brought up.

I’ll be interested to see if I get a letter from Steven Conroy office.

It’s great to see that K-Rudd has embraced the web so much that he’s made use of the copypasta technique – http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=copypasta

The government is leaning too hard on this erronious idea that information is either legal or illegal, and that black and white are the only colours here. I get it, CP is illegal, that much is abundantly clear, but thinking of the internet as ‘downloadable content’ shows a serious and dangerous lack of understanding.

Gads that’s frustrating. Good on you for sending the letter. If he doesn’t listen to the people then perhaps he needs to hear the message a little louder. Want to ignore us? Enjoy your only term in office Rudd and co.

    Ian,

I’m going to dispense with the flowery remarks — Rudd’s hired “attack pooch” with a Masters in Public Policy Administration (or something similar) basically flicked you back a missive of boilerplate claptrap drivel that would have been sent to anyone with half a pulse to send a letter — not for one as intentionally crafted as yours was (and knowing you, mate, I know it was in top shape!).

    Disappointing…very.

That wasn’t a letter so much as it was an acceptance speech at the Rotary Club. What gives?!

We’re on the case though. Keep on keeping on. A quote I noticed today that’s so a propos you:

“It takes rough seas to make good captains.”

Aye, aye, oh cap’n my cap’n!

From the Golden City of Praha,
    ADM
