Welcome To Episode 17 of Your Story.

Today we talk with Craig Longhurst who I met recently in a short discussion one night with friends overCraig Longhurst a beer.

Craig showed intense passion for racing Sidecars of which I know nothing about but I found out that he is also into building Cafe Racers along with his work as a fitter repairing large turbines used in power generation throughout Australia.

Craig giving us a small insight into the world of Sidecarheavy engineering and the passion that some have for building things that they can use to move them in some of the most exciting ways. These are the mechanical trades.

Welcome To Episode 4 of Your Story Addendum.

Well the trip and testing of my method is over and I’m on my way home to Brisbane.
What I’ve learnt is that I can do this and that I have a lot of support from people as I travel to help me. I’m a little surprised that when I mention the idea that I’m collecting stories everyone seems to think it’s a great idea, which is heartening as I think it’s a good idea as well but I’m being utterly self indulgent with this show so I don’t necessarily think others will rock with the idea. Surprisingly they often do.Federation Square Wall

I need to continue to get faster at the post production of the episodes as I’ve found that I can spend a huge amount of time on the tiding up of the audio and I still don’t have it any where the standard that I want to eventually get to. I’d like if possible to be able to spend no more than twice the audio recording time in post production if I can. At the moment I’m probably spending about four times as long in post. Hopefully I’ll just get faster.

As I’ve mentioned before I don’t have much experience at travelling and this trip was to get me familiar with it again. That has worked brilliantly and it was a good idea to do it in a local but unfamiliar city rather than waiting until I get to Berlin and have the additional issues of culture and language.

So Melbourne went well. I’m a bit behind in getting the episodes out so I’ll attempt to get them out in the next week. Then I need to get the last of the things organised for the Eurodessy which is only five weeks away.

Wrapping Up Melbourne from The Workshop

On my way from The Victoria Markets where I got a few things for the trip like European power adapters and a light weight tripod I was walking past The Workshop, a very cool bar built above an old Mechanics workshop and decided to drop in for a quick drink.

On the spare of the moment I decided to make this seesmic video.

I’m now off to the state library to see Ned Kelly’s armour.…

Welcome To Episode Sixteen of Your Story.

In 1979 I was training to become a Parachuting and Skydiving Instructor under the guidance of Claude Gillard. At the time Claude was president of the Australian Claude Gillard AOMParachute Federation with already 20 years experence in the sport going back to it’s very beginning in Australia in 1959. Claude has seen the sport develop from an intentional form of aircraft bale out, to the development of the extreme activities with tandems, wing suits and high speed canopies that we have today.

Being involved in both the training, commercialisation, and administration of individual clubs and the development of the Australian Parachute Federation, Claude has seen parachuting from the very beginning as President of the APF for over 30 years.

Within all human activities there is are few rare people who see this activity from inception to maturity. Claude within parachuting and skydiving is one of these fortunate and rare individuals and within his experiences are the timeline of the development of skydive adventures.

There are some specific people I know that I look forward to bringing to you on Your Story, Claude is up there as one of the most important to reflect on his life that I know.

Welcome To Episode Three of Your Story Addendum.

My OfficeIt’s a cold a rainy day here in Melbourne so I’ve spent most of it working on the show stumbling over the technology. I’m in the roof top lounge with a fire burning at the Youth Hostel.

Funny thing happened this morning I went to get a coffee and I was served by this huge man. I’m talking massive. Two metres tall and 160 kg but all muscle

You know sometimes you meet someone and you know they are famous it’s just that you don’t know them. He introduced himself as Sam Greco. Well that was the situation here. I asked him if he is a boxer and he said yes but a kick boxer and he gave me his card. I asked him to come on the show. I doubt that it will happen but I checked out his on line personality. Here is a youtube video of him at work.

Melbourne is often said to be a rather continental city which with its lanes, stone buildings and more temperate climate than Brisbane I would probable have to agree

While walking home I thought I’d reflect on a couple of things that I’ve been noticing as I look around today. These include settling in a getting the feel of finding people and the need for the right equipment.

Welcome To Episode One of Your Story Addendum.

Today is the start of Your Story Addendum a mini podcast episode of the things that I observe as I travel to Melbourne initially where I’ll practice this technique as preparation for heading to Europe in July.

These episodes are recorded as MP3’s and aren’t edited as I want to get them out easily with the minimum of fuss. They are intended to have the information that is additional to the main podcast that would take away from it because of the more personal nature of it, hence the name.

They in no way are to replace the main podcast episodes which will still be fully produced and is the main reason for having Your Story.

Please hang around I hope to put a lot up in the next week a lot of interesting personal stories and maybe a few f my observations.

Thanks for coming on the ride with me. 🙂

In the back ground things are happening. Here is one of them…

There is a lot of things that need to be done to get this site and the podcast up to speed but one thing that I’ve learnt is that I don’t have to get everything right immediately and that it’s alright to just make do until I get something new into place.

One of the things is to get all the different options that are now available onto the site so that you can follow me in my travels to Melbourne and Europe which are mentioned at the top of the site.

I want you to be able if you chose to read, look, listen and watch me as I travel and meet people.

I’m still putting some things into place but what I’m managing to have a crack at today is to post a piece of video courtesy of seesmic so I can chat directly to you and give you a brief summary of what I’m up to and have a bit of a practice at using the technology.

Here it is… {seesmic_video:{“url_thumbnail”:{“value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/sQbbrW6ny3_th1.jpg”}”title”:{“value”:”Your Story is off to Melbourne “}”videoUri”:{“value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/ncPLQhquTg”}}}

European Odyssey July – August ’08

Your Story is going to Europe.

I’m an Australian man with all the traditional western views laid down from being raised in Australia and I wish to take these eyes and attitude and see how others live there lives then show others that there are 6 Billion ways that we do this thing called humanity.

So as an initial step along this path I’m taking Your Story to Europe.

EuropeIn July and August 2008 I’m travelling to Europe to find interesting stories and bring them to you through this podcast.

Initially I’m travelling to Germany to explore the lives in that country. I have a particular interest in what I’ve observed as a uniquely German cultural trait of a Collective Guilt over the events of World War 2. I also find the technological assets of the German psyche fascinating and hope that I may find some interesting technicians in the world of engineering, manufacturing or the sciences.

Berlin is a city I want to explore and discover the unusual world that I know is buried below the surface of that city. A culture of exciting differences that are growing up out of the fall of the Berlin Wall not 20 years ago. I can only wonder what may await me down some of those dark alleys.

From Berlin I want to travel overland to France then hop over to London, Great Britain.

All the way I want to explore the culture, history and the everyday differences that I observe and are shared with me. I want to do this in a few different ways.

 • Continue to produce Your Story podcast episodes in the current format.
 • Where required add several still images of people and events of interest.
 • Video presentations of interesting activities that people are involved with.
 • Running short audio commentary on my observations and experiences as I travel.

If all goes well with my preparation and the necessary skills that I need you will hopefully have and interesting experience in following me as I explore the people and places I visit and where you find it interesting you will be able to linger and listen to the podcast eposides that grabs your attention. That is at least my goal. We’ll all see if I can pull this off.

I’ve chosen these countries simply because I know some people there and that is a good place as any to start. But I need more help.

If you know of people and your interested in sharing them with the world I’d appreciate if you could let me know and if it’s possible I may be able to catch up with them and include them on Your Story.

I can be contacted at chat@yourstorypodcast.com.

If you have also places of interest that you think may be worth checking out also let me know. I’m not promising anything but all ideas are welcome.

Thanks for all your support. 🙂
